The world has very determined views on Black ladies.

Truly, what the world has is a set of inherent stereotypes and biases that folks desperately cling to with a purpose to preserve their (assumed) place in society’s hierarchy.

As a fats, Black girl, these stereotypes run the gamut from the common insults of laziness to the extra “constructive” in nature. For instance, the picture of the “sturdy Black girl” is a pervasive dangerous trope we see in every little thing from films to actuality TV.

It’s this concept that Black ladies are in some way impervious to ills that plague our non-Black counterparts. As a fats, Black girl, that features eating regimen tradition — however nothing might be farther from the reality.

Our experiences with eating regimen tradition are at greatest, isolating, and at worst, demoralizing. Beneath the parable of the “sturdy Black girl,” our “energy” supersedes our humanity, and we have now to cope with a society that calls for we play each sufferer and savior.

The uncomfortable reality is that fats, Black ladies weren’t spared from eating regimen tradition, and within the absence of empathy or compassion, we needed to save ourselves.
