Need an essential oil list? There are over 350 different essential oils. Some are from the same plant family but a different species. this is important, especially trying to foster sustainability and conservation efforts. As certain plants become endangered, farmers and aromatherapists are constantly looking for a healthy and effective substitute. Chemistry will play a significant role is determining a beneficial substitute.

Essential Oil List

Here is a list I compiled of 97 of the most common essential oils used in aromatherapy practices. It does list several species, but not all of them. Eucalyptus for example, you have Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus smithii, Eucalyptus radiata, Eucalyptus citriodora, and others.

Quality Assurance from Reputable Suppliers

Finding a reputable source is very important. You want to make sure essential oils are 100% pure, unadulterated, and harvested properly.

While there is not grading system for essential oils, when you use a high-quality oil, will get the benefits from its therapeutic properties. Oils grown at the right altitudes, in the best parts of the world for that particular plant, harvested at the right time of day, and extracted properly will possess the highest chemical constituents which dictate therapeutic property potency.

There is a lot to know about using essential oils safely and effectively. When you match the right essential oil(s) up to your specific health needs, you can get great results. You want to use the right proportion and dilution ratio that gives results but also is mindful of conservation. You see, more isn’t always better in aromatherapy. Too much can cause skin irritation. It can also try to flush out buried or trapped emotions too fast. Finding the balance requires skill and understanding of the essential oils’ nature and personality.
